On Wednesday, April 22, 2015 CASC Senate Bill 451, passed the Senate Education Committee with bipartisan support and is now waiting to be approved by the Senate Appropriation Committee. SB 451 updates 49600 of the California Education Code (CEC) authorizing school districts to provide the structures for a comprehensive educational counseling program to meet the growing demands of California’s K-12 students. CASC Executive Director, Dr. Loretta Whitson testified along with representatives from CTA and the California Association of the Gifted. The Williams Settlement requires that school district maintain the support students need to be successful in school and in particular to pass the CAHSEE. Districts have to provide access to services which are generally navigated by support service workers. Please look at how UTLA is promoting the retention of support service positions as a component to meeting the settlement's stipulations: Support and Save HHS Professionals
