Letters Delivered to Key Government Officials

As the grand finale to California's first Student Mental Health Week, a very poignant letter and a report was delivered to Governor Gavin Newsom; State Superintendent of Public Instruction, Tony Thurmond; California Surgeon General, Dr. Nadine Burke Harris; and State Board of Education President Dr. Linda Darling-Hammond California Surgeon General.
The letter was from Sylvia Torres-Guillén representing the American Civil Liberties Union of Southern California and Dr. Loretta Whitson representing the California Association of School Counselors. The report outlines the growing student mental health concerns and demands for California leaders to take action to maintain a viable counseling workforce in the coming school year. The letter was also timed to coincide with the Governor release of budget recommendations for the 2020-2021 Budget (May Revise).
