We invite you to join us in supporting Senate Concurrent Resolution 64 (SCR 64), a pivotal bill that designates May 5-9, 2025, as Student Mental Health Awareness Week.
Besides all the student focused activities you will be doing during this important week, we are asking that you also advocate with district administrators to encourage them to engage their school board members to formally support this important legislation. The California Association of School Counselors (CASC) is proud to sponsor SCR 64, (Rubio). We appreciate Senator Rubio, a former teacher in the Monrovia Unified School District for authoring this legislation. This is our moment to prioritize student mental health and promote a culture of support across California schools.
Why This Matters: SCR 64 acknowledges the urgent and ongoing need to prioritize student mental health across California. Designating a dedicated week each year will:
- Promote proactive mental health education and awareness for students.
- Encourage schools to host and highlight wellness-related activities.
- Reduce stigma and normalize open, supportive conversations about mental health.
As trusted leaders in your schools and communities, school counselors play a critical role in advancing student well-being. We encourage you to share the purpose and benefits of Senate Concurrent Resolution (SCR 64) with your school and district administrators, emphasizing how this initiative aligns with academic success, equity, and overall student wellness. Urge key district decision-makers to support a school board resolution backing the bill.
