CA PPS Standards Progressing through Approval Process

Commissioners from the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC) reviewed draft standards for the Pupil Personnel Services (PPS) credentials on Friday, February 9, 2019.

Commissioners from the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC) reviewed draft standards for the Pupil Personnel Services (PPS) credentials on Friday, February 9, 2019. These program standards address the quality of university program features that are specific to a credential, which includes such things as curriculum, field experiences, and knowledge and skills to be demonstrated by PPS candidates in the specific credential area.

This was an information item only. Later in the year, it is anticipated that there will be a vote for approval. Approximately 26 minutes into the hearing is when the discussion item was introduced. It can be viewed in the CTC archives here.

Workgroup members have been meeting for the past year to update the standards in four PPS credentialing areas: school counselors, school psychologists, school social workers, and child welfare and attendance supervisors. Kirsten Barnes, a high school counselor in the central valley, has been very involved in this process. She is the Governor appointed representative on the Commission, representing all Non-Administrative Service Credentials in the state. She is also currently serving on the PPS workgroup and is the CASC Parliamentarian and a former President of CASC. Other workgroup members are Catalina Cifuentes, Danielle Duarte, Elvia Estrella, Thierry Kolpin, Caroline Lopez, Paul Meyers, Shyrea Minton, Laura Rodriguez, and Loretta Whitson.
