Brian Coleman, 2019 School Counselor of the Year to Keynote 2019 CASC State Conference October 3-4, 2019

CASC is pleased to announce that Brian Coleman, 2019 School Counselor of the Year, will speak on Friday October 4 at the CASC State Conference and Expo in Riverside.
Mr. Coleman is a high school counselor at Jones College Prep High School in Chicago Public Schools where he is in his second year as School Counseling Department Chair. He has actively supported and advocated on behalf of LGBTQA+ youth for many years. Coleman, a former actor, found his love for education and students while performing with About Face Theatre company and working in its youth talk-back program. These programs heightened his awareness of the potential he had in devoting his life to youth by working in the field of school counseling. He recognized that serving as a school counselor would provide him with daily opportunities to “support, validate and affirm the next generation of leaders and change agents.” Coleman believes school counseling is all about relationships and authenticity. He strives to keep it as real (with care) as possible with his students and families and hopes that they will do the same. Most recently, Mr. Coleman won an "Upstander Award" from the Human Rights Campaign for his LGBTQA+ youth advocacy work.

The 2019 State Conference and Expo registration is now open. This year's theme is Unlocking the Future. The conference brings 1,500 educators and school counseling professionals from throughout California and connects attendees with the newest trends, innovations, and practices, with the unique opportunity to network with other school counselors across all professional levels.
