Committees

According to the CASC Bylaws, there are three standing committees: a Nominations and Elections committee, an Ethics committee, and a Bylaws committee.

In addition, CASC has numerous other committees to assist in the work necessary to keep the association and school counseling profession at the forefront of education in California. These committees include:

  • Outreach and Engagement
  • Government Relations
  • Social Justice and Anti-Racism
  • Emeriti
  • Technology

The formal application process to join a committee begins every April. If you are interested in volunteering on one of these committees, please complete the application when it becomes available.

Social Justice, Equity, and Anti-Racism

The Social Justice, Equity and Anti-Racism Committee makes recommendations to the CASC Board of Directors and works at having an Association that is balanced, all-inclusive, equity-minded, and anti-racist, with an overall goal of addressing the needs of California’s diverse student population. The committee is composed of diverse representatives of CASC.

Membership Goals
Increase diversity in CASC's membership and leadership by making recommendations on recruitment, retention, and outreach efforts.

Communication Goals
Increase all members’ awareness of racism, equity and diversity issues that impact historically underserved educators and students.

Professional Learning Goals
Provide recommendations on relevant professional learning and resources for CASC's leaders and members that focuses on building capacity in anti-racist, socially just, and equal ways.

Nominations and Election

The CASC Board of Directors is comprised of eleven (11) members of the California Association of School Counselors. These individuals have been voted in by a ballot of their peers in elections that happen biannually - five (5) individuals chosen in one election and six (6) chosen in another two years later. Each board member serves a four year term who are dedicated school counselor-advocates and who are focused on creating conditions so California School Counselors can practice with the highest level of effectiveness using an equity lens. CASC plays a vital role in promoting the profession of school counseling to all our stakeholders on a state, regional and national level. It is through the dedication of the members of the CASC Board that we ensure school counselors remain leaders in the field of education.

The Association is required per its bylaws to have a Nominations and Elections committee who "follow guidelines for selecting candidates for election to the Association’s Board of Directors in accordance with Article V, Sections 4 and 5 of the bylaws". The leadership of the Association is critical to its success and those who serve on the Nominations and Elections committee are just as essential.
